Ice melters are essential elements in efforts to keep sidewalks and parking lots and structures free of ice and snow. Residential and businesses have access to a growing array of ice-melting products today. And advertising claims such as “fastest acting,” “safe for environment,” “less tracking,” and “melts at lowest temperatures” are among the more common sales pitches. Don't be fooled by creative marketing. Most so-called new products are actually blends of common deicers that have been around for years. Unfortunately, some ice-melting products on the market do not even list their ingredients, so buyer, beware.

Generally, all ice melters work in the same way. They depress the freezing point of ice or snow and turn the mixture into a liquid or semi-liquid slush. Solid chemical salts bore through ice or snow and form a strong brine solution. This brine spreads under the ice or hard-packed snow and undercuts, breaking the bond to the surface. Once loose, the ice or snow is easily removed by mechanical means. Or, in many cases, users, apply the material in anticipation of ice or snow. This prevents the bond to the surface and melts the snow or ice as it comes in contact with the brine.

Though common deicing materials work in the same way, they vary widely in performance. The determining factors are speed, quantity of material required, and duration of melting action. Environmental considerations are also important.

The products below are our best sellers and are almost always in stock.  We sell bagged, pallets and even bulk deicers. We offer landscaper & bulk discounts when picked up, and will also deliver any quantity you wish.

SAFE PAW & SAFE PET ICE MELT

Most people use salt (or even more chemically active salt-based compounds) to clear sidewalks and outside stairs around the house after a storm. But if you have pets — especially dogs — the use of ice melters can prove problematic as pets often eat snow or lick their paws, ingesting the salt of poisonous chemicals leading to sores and digestive issues.

A proven ice melter that’s safe for pets -  For use on sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas. -  Non-corrosive  -  Environmentally friendly  -  Prevents ice and snow from re-bonding  -  Product does not contain salt of any kind  -  Will not burn or cause irritation.

Excel 94-97% Calcium Chloride Pellets

No other ice-melt product works on snow and ice better than Excel Calcium Chloride Pellets. Comparative performance tests and scientific research prove that it’s the premier choice for ice melt.

Similar to magnesium chloride, but pound-for-pound melts twice as much ice.  Excel is the fastest dry deicer on the market, working to minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Vegetation, corrosion and concrete performance compares favorably to competing ice-melt materials, including magnesium and potassium chloride.

Magnesium Chloride Pellet & Flake

This product offers many benefits and is very similar to calcium chloride: It is considered less corrosive, safer on concrete, less damaging to vegetation, animals and humans, and tracks less than calcium chloride.

The main drawback to magnesium chloride is that it is only 48 percent active and needs to be applied at a higher rate than calcium chloride.

ComboTherm

Use the best-performing ice-melt blend available to clear steps, walks, driveways and parking lots-COMBOTHERM™ Commercial Strength Blended Deicer from Oxy. Its unique composition makes it an economical alternative to premium deicers for maintenance professionals and property managers.

Contains the highest percentage of calcium chloride-at least 70 percent-of any blend on the market, along with sodium chloride and potassium chloride. Because of that, it generates heat as it dissolves into a brine solution, helping it to start melting snow and ice faster than other deicers.

Is a better ice melter, and a better value, than blends composed mostly of rock salt, which are less effective when temperatures fall below 20°F. The calcium chloride in COMBOTHERM™ deicer keeps working even down to -25°F.

Blizzard Wizzard

Blizzard Wizard is a traditional ice melter encapsulated with liquid magnesium and a proprietary formula to provide an environmentally-friendly product with very little dilution. The product provides aggressive melting power at extremely low temperatures while offering virtually no corrosiveness.

The advanced ice melter can leave dry, bare ground and helps provide an ice shield for upcoming storms. Blizzard Wizard is also 30% to 40% less corrosive than rock salt.

Halite Salt Crystals

Rock salt is the most commonly used ice melter. Its irregularly shaped crystals are inexpensive compared to other materials. But it has limited effectiveness in very cold temperatures. Rock salt will not melt ice below 20 degrees.

Rock salt does not chemically attack concrete, but it is corrosive to rebar and steel. Sodium also can be toxic to vegetation and can build up in the soil, causing permanent damage. Rock salt also leaves a white powdery residue.
